Island Development Model Specialisation: A Panel Data Analysis Comparing Evolutionary Tourism Model, Industrial to Community-Based (2010–2019)

2022

Islands are frequently characterised by an economic structure centred on tourism and the service sector. This specialisation has taken different forms and characterisations concerning the chosen or spontaneously developed model. To understand the development choices and patterns, this article analyses sixteen islands and archipelagos in the European Union over ten years from 2010 to 2019. A panel data analysis was based on critical variables identifying the tourism industry model from those that could represent a proxy of the community-based tourism model. The principal component analysis was adopted to compare the evolutionary trends of these two different ways of choosing the island’s tou…

Eiropas apcietinājuma lēmums kā viens no krimināltiesiskās sadarbības instrumentiem Eiropas Savienībā

2020

2017

Jau gadsimtiem ilgi pasaule ir pazinusi noziedzību un tās dažādās izpausmes, līdz ar to cīņa pret to vienmēr ir bijusi valstu prioritāte, lai nodrošinātu drošu vidi tās iedzīvotājām. Tāpat ir zināms, ka noziedzība nepazīst valstu robežas – terorisms, organizētā noziedzība, noziedznieki, kuri cenšoties izvairīties no soda mēģina slēpties citās valstīs, ir visu valstu problēma ar kuru jācīnās kopīgiem spēkiem. Tieši tāpēc aizvien lielāku nozīmi iegūst sasvstarpējā valstu sadarbība. Viens no šādas sadarbības veidiem personas izdošana institūts. Maģistra darba ietvaros darba autore analizējusi regulējumu un aktuālos problēmjautājumus saistībā ar personas izdošanu Eiropas Savienības dalībvalstu …

Definition and management of colorectal polyposis not associated with APC/MUTYH germline pathogenic variants: AIFEG consensus statement

2021

An expert consensus panel convened by the Italian Association for Inherited and Familial Gastrointestinal Tumors (Associazione Italiana per lo Studio della Familiarita ed Ereditarieta dei Tumori Gastrointestinali, AIFEG) reviewed the literature and agreed on a number of position statements regarding the definition and management of polyposis coli without an identified pathogenic mutation on the APC or MUTYH genes, defined in the document as NAMP (non-APC/MUTYH polyposis).

Sequestration of Pd2+ by polyamino-polycarboxylic ligands

2011

The increase of the worldwide demand of “Platinum group elements” (PGE) for application in several fields such as industry, medicine, jewellery and, especially, in catalyst converter production, caused a noticeable increasing of PGE concentration in the environment. Though palladium, among the anthropogenic PGE, is not the most abundant one, it is the most hazardous since it undergoes easily and quickly oxidation to palladium(II) when in contact with soils, with a consequent increase of its mobility in the environment. The presence of complexing agents, which form soluble complex species with palladium(II), favours the mobility of the ion with an increase of its availability to plants, anim…

Molecular imaging of VEGF in gastrointestinal cancer in vivo using confocal laser endomicroscopy

2010

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a therapeutic target in gastrointestinal cancer (GiC). However, its in vivo visualisation could not be achieved to date with endoscopic techniques. Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a novel imaging technique for gastrointestinal endoscopy providing in vivo microscopy at subcellular resolution. The aim of the study was to evaluate CLE for in vivo molecular imaging of VEGF in GiC.Molecular imaging of tumours in APCmin mice, in xenograft models and in surgical specimens of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) was achieved after application of labelled antibodies. The tumour sites were scanned with the probe for the strongest specific fluoresce…

Plan S: challenges and opportunities in Spain

2019

Spain is one of the most active European countries in the open access (OA) movement. Although the gold route has scarcely been used, the green route has been intensively implemented through fulfilment of European and national mandates and the development of institutional policies. Plan S is becoming a disruptive element in the context of scientific communication, and Spain’s possible adherence to Plan S could imply technical challenges in journals and repositories, additional costs that are difficult to estimate, or refusal to accept the Plan on the part of researchers (based on the loss of freedom to choose the journal in which to publish). However, the implementation of Plan S in Spain wo…

Role of Gadd45a in Wip1-dependent regulation of intestinal tumorigenesis.

2012

Conversion of intestinal stem cells into tumor-initiating cells is an early step in Apc(Min)-induced polyposis. Wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1)-dependent activation of a DNA damage response and p53 has a permanent role in suppression of stem cell conversion, and deletion of Wip1 lowers the tumor burden in Apc(Min) mice. Here we show that cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2a, checkpoint kinase 2, and growth arrest and DNA damage gene 45a (Gadd45a) exert critical functions in the tumor-resistant phenotype of Wip1-deficient mice. We further identified Gadd45a as a haploinsufficient gene in the regulation of Wip1-dependent tumor resistance in mice. Gadd45a appears to function through…

Bezpilota motorizētas iekārtas orientēšanās telpā un optimālā maršruta izvēle

2016

Šajā darbā tiek apskatīta un risināta austoša problēma ar autonomu “robotu” orientēšanos telpā, bez iepriekšējām priekšzināšanām par to, optimālu maršruta izvēli, kā arī risinājums, kā to izveidot neatkarīgi no ārējiem resursiem, piemēram, globālās pozicionēšanas sistēmām, mobilo datu pieslēguma datiem, bezvadu tīklu vai radio frekvenču identifikāciju. Risinājums veidots kā vairāku sensoru kombinācija, iekļaujot sevī 10 dimensiju jeb DOF, ultraskaņas un vibrāciju sensorus. Rezultātā ir iegūta sistēmas koncepcija, kura pati spēj autonomi apstaigāt lauku, paralēli veidojot apstaigātās platības karti.

Quantitative methylation analysis of developmentally important genes in human pregnancy losses after ART and spontaneous conception.

2009

To study possible effects of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) on epigenetic reprogramming, we have analyzed the DNA methylation levels of differentially methylated regions (DMRs) of seven imprinted genes (H19, MEG3, LIT1, MEST, NESP55, PEG3 and SNRPN) as well as the promoter regions of the pluripotency gene NANOG and the tumor suppressor gene APC in chorionic villus samples (CVS) of 42 spontaneous miscarriages and stillbirths after ART and 29 abortions/stillbirths after spontaneous conception. We did not find an increased rate of faulty methylation patterns after ART, but significant and trend differences (ROC curve analysis, Wilcoxon test) in the methylation levels of LIT1 (P = 0.0…
